When you pull up to The Rome EDITION, it’s quite unlike any other hotel front I’ve seen. The hotel is set on a pretty and historic cobbled side street. Its creamy walls have greenery tumbling out of every orifice. It’s like a horticulturalist has gone mad and has hidden plants in every corner, and these plants, loving the Rome climate, have crawled, sprouted, and tumbled out of the pots, and down the walls, draping their leafy tendrils all over the front of this hotel.
I love this green garden space created by The Rome EDITION, such a breath of fresh air in the hot city (we visited in the Summer). The plants in and around the hotel provide a tropical and stylish ambiance, as if you’ve stepped into a tropical Hawaiian island in the center of Rome, and it is the way these triffids are backlit by sparkly lights and the way they are set around super stylish courtyards, that gives the entrance and pre-foyer area of this hotel such an edge.
It’s as if the plants calm the atmosphere, giving you the chance to slow down and rest in this frenetic city. It’s an oasis in a cityscape, and it’s brilliant.
Location
The Rome EDITION is tucked just off Via Veneto, within effortless walking distance of Piazza Barberini, the Spanish Steps, and Trevi Fountain. Yet, despite its central spot in Rome’s tourist heart, the hotel feels serenely secluded—hidden behind quiet, cobbled streets and buffered by its secret courtyard, which blocks out noise.

It’s the perfect compromise: a short stroll to iconic landmarks without the constant bustle and traffic. Thanks to its discreet entrance and elegant lobby, stepping inside feels like arriving at your own stylish hideaway in the heart of the Eternal City.

Style & Character
Set in a grand 1940s bank building, this boutique hotel combines Roman rationalist architecture with lush garden vibes and modern Italian interiors. It feels boutique, stylish, and not the least but stuffy.

The building’s original rationalist details, the Cipollino marble grand staircase, original lamps, airy courtyards, set a dramatic tone and have all been restored, but it is the modern design that is woven into the walls and floors of this building that makes this hotel special.

Guests walk into the hotel through an entrance that is engulfed with winding plants and trees. Wooden partitions and handrails give the entrance a luxurious and organic feel, and hidden soft lighting makes the main entry stairway feel chic and welcoming, particularly at night.
Down the stairway is the romantic garden courtyard area bathed in twinkling lamps and candles, and dripping with overenthusiastic plants. Yes, this is an urban courtyard, but it feels more like you’re in a forest. This is a great place to dine in the evening and enjoy the hotel breakfast in the morning.

Beyond the garden lies the impressive lobby, a chic, creamy space with 7m ceilings, travertine floors, plush velvet drapes, and custom furnishings. At one end of the room is a pool table, which was almost always busy during our stay, and at the other is the reception and concierge.

Head past the reception and you can find a dark, atmospheric speakeasy bar and the guest rooms, which can be reached via a large historic marble stairwell. The lifts in this stairwell take you up to the rooms and up to the hotel’s magnificent rooftop restaurant.

To the other end of the main lobby is the main hotel restaurant, which is a bright, modern room where you can enjoy breakfast and evening meals when the weather isn’t so good. When it’s warm, you must eat outside in the garden. It’s a brilliant space, and no one ate inside when we were staying.

Service & Facilities
At the Rome EDITION, service is intimate, polished, and quietly attentive. Front‑desk agents, concierges, and housekeepers work with a tone that’s friendly and stylish.
The hotel has a really large and sleek 24‑hour fitness centre with loads of running, rowing, and weights machines. There’s a small yet elegant urban spa that offers treatments in tranquil rooms below the lobby.

The social hub is the lobby, featuring the pool table mentioned above and plush seating. Guests also spent much of their relaxation time in the garden. I swear one couple was playing a board game in this garden from 11 am when we had breakfast to 4 pm when we came back from an explore of the city.

The rooftop on the seventh floor is a standout as the hotel is seven storeys high and built towards the top of a hill, thus slightly taller than most of the buildings in the area, which is why the rooftop pool, bar, and restaurant offer such outstanding views.

A travertine plunge pool surrounded by teak daybeds offers panoramic views of the entire city, featuring its iconic rooftops and domes, including the Pantheon and Sant’Andrea della Valle. Sip a Mediterranean‑flavoured cocktail here at sunset, or enjoy a full meal as the day turns to night, and you’ll feel like you’re in your own Roman sky lounge.

Rooms
With 91 rooms plus 17 suites (and two penthouses), every space at The Rome EDITION reflects thoughtful Italian craftsmanship. Expect light wood walls and partitions, Canaletto walnut beds, textured rugs, leather chairs, herringbone flooring, Le Labo toiletries, high‑tech TVs, and Bang & Olufsen sound systems.
Rooms are quietly soundproofed, ensuring even the busiest corners of Rome stay muted. Many rooms look over the courtyard garden, while higher floors offer skyline views across domes and rooftops.

Our room, 116, was a Premier room which offered more space but the identical decor to the starter rooms; so white sheets, cream rug, and sofa with two seats set around an Italian marble coffee table.
The floor was a rich rosewood parquet to match the wooden walls. Two bobble lights and small reading lights sit to either side of the bed with little round side tables. Everything, including the minibar, was designed with curves, which softened the room.

The windows had little window seats under them with round, cylindrical pillows, and the curtains almost fully covered two of the walls. They were brilliantly blackout and had magnets to ensure they didn’t swing open and allow any pesky rays in.
The bathroom was tiled in rustic, rough grey-black stone, with a generous shower. A round, gold-framed mirror and basin sat in the center, accompanied by brushed gold taps. To the right, a toilet and bidet were positioned. Le Labo For Edition amenities were truly generous, featuring 360ml bottles of rich hair shampoo and conditioner, a delicious-smelling shower gel, and body lotion.

The room had a double aspect, with a view over the small side street that fronted The Rome Edition and another perpendicular side street that ran along the side of the hotel. Both streets were historic with cobblestones, and super skinny with pretty creamy coloured buildings to either side, providing nice shade in the summer months.

The lighting in the room was subtle but theatrical, with fixtures that became art pieces. Whether you pick a standard room, one of the elevated suites, or the penthouse, each one offers Italian elegance mixed with modern comfort.
Suites bring added perks. Some face directly onto the internal gardens or the city skyline. The scene is cozy, neatly detailed, and perfect for relaxing with wine and room service after a long day exploring. Penthouse guests can host private dinners or events overlooking Rome.

If you book any of these rooms via our luxury travel concierge, you get a load of perks including this welcome amenity and breakfast for two included.
Food & Drink
At the centre of this hotel’s dining soul is Anima, the main restaurant on the ground floor with the lush garden, helmed by celebrated Roman chef Paola Colucci. The open-fronted kitchen sits behind amber glass, allowing guests to watch and feel part of the creative process.

The menu revolves around inventive takes on Roman classics, such as velvety vitello tonnato, pasta with roasted datterini tomatoes, or veal with tuna sauce, all anchored in family recipes with modern flair. Italian wines dominate the list, paired intuitively with each dish. There is nowhere more romantic in Rome than dining by candlelight, with fronds of greenery winding around your table and jasmine vines scenting the air.

Complementing Anima is the Punch Room bar, inspired by antique 17th‑century punch recipes remixed into a modern speakeasy vibe. This bar area is dark and moody with a youthful feel and trendy music.

The hotel also offers a rooftop bar and restaurant. At one end of the rooftop, daybeds and drinks cluster around the plunge pool for sunset indulgence. At the other, a relaxed restaurant with candlelit tables set up amid pots of flowers, with the Roman skyline as your backdrop.

Breakfast at Anima was particularly noteworthy. We enjoyed freshly squeezed orange juice (the real stuff, none of your Tropicana nonsense), perfect coffees, and perfect a la carte eggs and avocado toast amongst the greenery outside each morning.

The menu here isn’t large and there is no buffet, but the ingredients are of brilliant quality and the chef perfectly cooks each dish so that it comes out ultra tasty. We had one of our best breakfasts in Rome here. Truly delicious.

Conclusion
So why would luxury travellers choose The Rome EDITION over a traditional grand hotel? First, it nails the sweet spot between modern design and local authenticity. The hotel definitely feels like it’s in Rome, but offers a very contemporary take on the city, and I loved that and the greenery.

This is also definitely one of the trendiest hotels in Rome and was buzzing with glammed-up locals in the evening, but it did not feel intimidating, and it did not lose any of the essentials, even with its trendy vibe.
The rooftop pool and restaurant were stunning, the room was gorgeous and quiet for sleeping in, the gym was light and airy and had so much equipment, the pool table gave the lobby a warm lived-in feel, and the breakfast in the courtyard garden was exquisite. I can’t reccomend EDITION Rome enough. I loved it.
